In the ever-evolving landscape of modern life, where the relentless pace often disconnects us from our inner selves and our true desires, the practice of embodied living offers a profound reconnection.

Many of us find ourselves living from the neck up, caught in our heads with constant thinking, planning, and worrying, while neglecting the wisdom and presence of our bodies?

I've been there. Maybe you have, too? Have you ever gotten lost in thought when taking a shower and put body wash on your hair instead of shampoo? I have. I was lost in my head and unaware of what was happening with my hands.

The journey of embodied living is about integrating mind AND body, as well as the soul.

Why?

True fulfillment and well-being comes from cultivating mental clarify, emotional health, and bodily awareness to improve decision-making, create deeper connections with self and others, increase resilience to stress, and experience a greater sense of inner peace and self-understanding.

At the heart of this practice lies the concept of "soma," derived from the Greek word meaning "body." Soma encompasses more than just the physical form; it refers to the living, sentient experience of being in a body.

A return to our roots, so to speak.

What is Embodied Living?

Embodied living is the art and science of fully inhabiting our bodies and engaging with the world through our senses. It means being present in each moment, listening to the wisdom of our bodies, and allowing our physical experiences to inform our decisions and actions.

Why is Embodied Living Important?

In a world dominated by mental activity and digital interactions, it's easy to become disconnected from our bodies and from others. This disconnection can lead to stress, burnout, and a sense of fragmentation. Embodied living brings us back to our center, helping us to ground ourselves, find balance, and navigate life's challenges from a place of wholeness, clarity, and community.

Why Now?

The need for embodied living has never been more urgent. With the fast-paced demands of modern life, constant digital distractions, and increasing social isolation, many of us are experiencing heightened stress and disconnection. The relentless pressure to perform and the pervasive sense of instability and uncertainty leave us feeling overwhelmed and fragmented.

My Personal Journey: Owning My Power Through Somatic Exploration

About 15 years ago, a colleague invited me to ghostwrite a book. While the topic aligned with my passions and I had a strong working relationship with my colleague, something inside me felt unsettled. Despite my initial hesitation, I agreed to try writing for her. However, when I sat down to write, the words wouldn't come and I felt stuck and uninspired.

I felt stressed by the thought of moving forward together. My head and my heart were conflicted, but I didn't know why. To gain clarity of which direction to go, I sought the help of a somatic coach. I traveled to California for our session, where we engaged in gentle movement to unlock hidden emotions and shifted from my head into my body's sensations. Through her skilled guidance, I realized that my body was resisting using my gifts to write a book that would bear someone else's name. For me, writing was a deeply personal expression, not a profession to be outsourced.

This realization empowered me. I returned home and shared with my colleague that I could only proceed as a co-author, with my contributions clearly acknowledged.

She declined, but the story didn't end there.

What I gained was far more valuable than a byline. I gained confidence in my inner wisdom, a voice to advocate for my needs, and a deeper sense of self. This experience was a turning point, demonstrating the profound impact of making decisions fully embodied.
